Hi - I've suddenly started getting an error message on
running web packaged Authoware files - it comes up with an error
saying ''A problem was encountered while trying to play the sound in
icon xxx. The internal sound driver reports the following error,
the filename format is incorrect possibly because long filenames
are not supported on this volume
Some sounds are OK, but most don't work. The audio files are
external. The program has been working fine for years - and now
suddenly started doing this - I guess it must be a Windows upgrade
or IE version. I am running XP SP2 with IE 7 Any ideas?Audio Problem

Any chance you have a super-long path to the files? Do the
failing sound
files have longer filenames than the ones that work?
If so, try shortening the full path to the entire course.

Audio Problem
Hi Steve - How are you?
No I've tried this. I've moved the whole program file to the
root of the C: drive and I still get it. It's weird, it's been
working fine then just suddenly started happening

Good - and you? This is l, right? :-)

And you say it worked fine web packaged up 'till now? Did it
break when you
upgraded to IE 7? And spaces in file names?

Hi Steve (this is Al)
The problem didn't start with IE7 it was working fine one day
and stopped working the next. It happened after I re-published
content - although the files run OK on other machines - just not
the machine I published it on! I already had IE7. The only thing I
can think is that one of those sneaky Windows updates happened and
changed something. There are no spaces in the filenames ( this is a
program you mostly built about 3 years ago...!)
One of my clients also has the same problem running an Aware
exe on a different PC

Hi Al - I thought so ;-) Somehow it ended up as ''l'' when I
typed your name
yesterday. Never was a great tpyist ;-)

Which program is it? Have you made any significant changes?
Maybe I can
check out the source and see what's going on?
Of course I wouldn't expect it to just break after all this
time.
Interesting to know it's only on a couple of machines. That's
a Big Clue ...
just don't know what it means yet.

HI - I think the problem is Windows Media Player v10. This is
what changed on the client PC. The program is Stock Management -
you remember! - Is there any known problems with Authoware 6.5 and
WMP v 10?

I don't *know* of any issues with WMP 10 offhand. I'll take a
look a little
later at my XP machine and see if I can test it outl.
Steve
Al,
I didn't see any issues offhand. Can you email me one of the
sound files
that are giving you problems? I can test it here, see if I
get the same
issue.
