Problems with Nested Layers

I have hundreds of pages that I created with Dreamweaver Mx.
Most have numerous layers and nested layers. With MX I had no
problems whatever in changing the stacking order, moving layers
back and forth between levels, etc. Since I switched to Dreamweaver
8, I have had two problems: 1) when I attempt to drag one layer to
nest it within another layer, sometimes it works and sometimes it
doesn't--the erstwhile parent layer often doesn't highlight when I
drag the would-be child layer over it. 2) When I move a child layer
to the parent level, the layer frequently disappears from the
layers panel altogether, although it remains visible on the design
page. Possible Clue: The anchors for the parent layers are all
located in a editable area of a template.
