Importing PageMill into Dreamweaver

Need to get into the 21st Century and before I purchase
Dreamweaver and learn it, what can I expect when I try and import
my current web site which has been entirely encoded with PageMill
in Dreamweaver? Is it even possible? Will everything get messed up?
will have to inspect the hundreds of pages individually?

PageMill had a lot of propretary tag attributes from what I
recall, so it

might take some cleaning up a bit if you want valid HTML.

Nothing a bit of search-and-replace can't fix, though.

That said, it might be time to consider just starting fresh.

Importing PageMill into Dreamweaver
I've seen some old pagemill files that had some bad syntax.
Some or all of

the pages may need cleaning up. Most of the errors will be
repetitive, so

maybe find and replace can be used?

Some of the code errors will be minor like improperly nested
font tags so a

font tag may appear in yellow in design view. Some might be
major structural

problems like tables where the rows/columns don't add up- in
those cases

dw's design few may note display some of the table cells
because it can't

make sense of what it's given to render.

I would go into dw prefs--%26gt;code rewriting, and turn off
auto-fix to prevent

content being lost. And make a backup copy of the site folder
first.

Thanks. Got about 650 pages though. Cant really start fresh.
Want to be able to import and then tweak. Guess there is not much
choice then but to just sift through the whole mess.

Appreciate the reply and help.

Hi mikehx,

It has been quite some ages for me to use PageMill (and
SiteMill). Like others have said, lot has changed since PageMill
and these days with Dreamweaver.

Along with transition from PageMill to Dreamweaver, I would
think that it is fair for me to say -- learn some HTML and CSS.
Because it is what it is. The more comfort zone you work with HTML
(and CSS), then you feel more comfortable working with any web
authoring application, perhaps with Dreamweaver CS3.

I would think that you probably feel overwhelmed with
Dreamweaver as to get used to use this app, because it is rather
much more powerful HTML editing application around Dreamweaver as
opposed to PageMill.

Hope that helps and good luck with your project.

Cheers, Brian
